Dental Implants

An implant replaces the root of a tooth with a fixture in the bone, which then supports a crown. It is the only option that does not rely on neighbouring teeth — and it is the longest process.

The stages

Assessment
Imaging and examination to check bone volume and health factors.
Placement
The fixture is placed in the bone.
Healing
Bone integrates with the fixture over months. A temporary may be worn.
Restoration
An abutment and crown are fitted and the bite adjusted.
Maintenance
Cleaned and monitored like a tooth. Gum health around it matters.

Honest limitations

Implants can fail. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, insufficient bone, and gum disease all reduce predictability, and the tissue around an implant can become inflamed much like gum disease. They are not maintenance-free and they are not permanent by default.

Some cases need bone grafting first, and some are better placed by a specialist. Where that applies, we arrange the referral rather than stretch our scope.

What to do next

Start with an assessment and imaging. Candidacy is a clinical question, not a preference.
