A Dental Emergency With a Child

Children’s dental injuries are common and usually manageable. What matters is telling the urgent from the merely alarming.

Right now
Comfort first, then look. Rinse gently with water. Cold compress outside the cheek for swelling from a knock. For a knocked-out permanent tooth, keep it in milk and call immediately. For a knocked-out baby tooth, do not try to put it back — call us. Any facial swelling, fever, or a knock that involved loss of consciousness needs urgent care.
